Serves as Mission South Africa’s expert advisor on all Locally Employed (LE) Staff human resources (HR) issues involving policies and procedures, compensation, benefits, strategic staffing, disciplinary issues and local labor law. Reports directly to the American HR Officer, supervises the LE Staff unit and partners together on the implementation and management of the full range of HR services for LE Staff employees for the Embassy in Pretoria and constituent posts in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:
FOR THE EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS APPLICANTS MUST MEET EITHER OPTION 1 OR OPTION 2 TO QUALIFY.Option 1

EXPERIENCE:

    • At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in the area of Human Resources management is required.
    • 1 year supervisory experience

EDUCATION:

    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or business administration is required.

Option 2:

EXPERIENCE:

    • At least 8 years of progressively responsible work experience in the area of Human Resources management is required.
    • 1 year supervisory experience

EDUCATION:

    • Completion of Secondary school is required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

    • A thorough knowledge of HR practices and procedures and all employment laws in South Africa that governs the employee, and the employer relations is required.
    • A good knowledge of Income Tax Act, SA Pension fund Act, Medical Aid Act, is required.
    • A good knowledge of Compensation and Benefits administration as well as position management and classification are required.

Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:  English; Fluent; speaking/reading/writing, may include the ability to translate (This may be tested)SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Advance knowledge in Microsoft excel, word, power point and outlook is required.
    • Must be able to work well with all levels of employees including supervisors, up to Executive Office.
    • The ability to draft in a clear concise and grammatically correct manner as well as the ability to interpret official documents and legislation is essential.
    • The ability to be professional and discreet, protect PII material is required.
    • Must have a good conflict management and ethics skills
